My tennis journey began at the age of 6 when my dad trained me on our local courts. Competing at a young age, I won my first tournament at the age of 9. By age 12, I had accumulated various tournament championships and was well on my way to compete at higher levels. Tennis has been an integral part of my life, and my main form of exercise. I love everything tennis has to offer, from a way to build friendships to a way to compete physically. The individuality within the sport of tennis allows for greater self-reflection and personal growth, two values every tennis player uses in their tennis journey. I was the only boy in the Class of 2024 to make the varsity tennis team during my freshman year, and I now am the highest-ranked player on the tennis team.
For all this sport has given me, I wish to give something back. During my sophomore year at Carroll Senior High School, I was met with an opportunity to start a coaching career. From then on, I expanded my client base through starting camps, group lessons, and teaching private lessons. With greater students however, I realized I had to expand my network to help this group grow. I contacted my fellow teammates and tennis friends who I believed would make great coaches to expand the group.
Now, with annual camps, weekly group lessons, and daily private lesson, I am proud to be able to share the happiness that tennis has brought me. Tennis has been an integral part of these early formative years of my life, and I am so excited to be able to share this passion with my students.
Unlike other coaches who do teach tennis as their full-time job, I am a high school student-athlete who teaches tennis on the side. Because of my rather young age, I am able to connect with the student much better. Doing activities with the student, running sprints, hitting balls, and engaging with the student on a much more personal level allows me to build a relationship with the student that fosters the most growth and improvement. My network of young athletes coaches are able to better connect with students, for they have recently went through the same journey the students may be going through. I am still in the process of learning and improving my personal tennis skills, and so are the students. Because of this shared experience, a stronger connection is able to be fostered through connecting with the student.
